Hey Guys,
Before this weeks video, I think a brief video introduction is needed to understand what's going on in the video. ImprovEverywhere, who made of the video are a group that make interesting flash mobs and stuff below is their description of the video :
"For our latest mission we constructed a custom wooden lectern with a megaphone holster and an attached sign that read, "Say Something Nice." The lectern was placed in public spaces around New York and then left alone. We wanted to see what would happen if New Yorkers were given the opportunity to amplify their voices to "say something nice." This project was produced by Improv Everywhere as part of the Guggenheim Museum exhibition stillspotting nyc"
The video:
So this video is about saying nice things. It's actually an easy thing, as seen in this video, but somehow only few people say say nice things. Why is saying nice things so important that we have an entire post about it?
ESV: Proverbs 12:18 There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
The tongue is like a sharp blade; It can hurt people, but it can also carve things of beauty. Saying nice things to encourage or comfort people can obviously help a lot. I'm sure there were times where we experienced the power of words; Both in good ways and bad ways.
The healing power of wise words does not only apply to the receiving person. When you say something nice, you feel good too. Just look at the people in the video. Are any one of them frowning, or look like they are in pain saying something nice? No! All of them have smiles on their faces. And I', sure they brought smiles to other faces as well. Start saying something nice to the people around you. It doesn't have to be big words and long sentences. Thanking you bus driver, greeting your teacher, praising your friends, are all nice things to say. Try them, and you'll find that you'll be smiling too. :)
ESV: Psalms 34:13 Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit.
ESV: Psalms 37:30 The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice.
Of course, saying bad things have their impact as well. I think everyone has a clear understanding of how words can hurt, so I'm won't be elaborating on that. Just hope that we can all try to watch our tongues more carefully.
Straying a bit away from the Bible verses, it is interesting to see that when people are given a channel or medium to say nice things, they actually are pretty willing to say them. However, why is it easier to spout praises to strangers, but difficult to the ones closer to you? Most probably because you don't them personally and you don't know their flaws. It is much harder to praise or accept them people close to us. But that is what we should be doing. Take a little time to re-look at everyone around you. Find things that are good in others which you didn't notice before. You'll find that there's a lot to say nice things about!
