Hey guys,
This weeks video:
In case you were wondering, this video is a parody of Apple's Mac vs PC campaign advertisements. Link to that at the bottom.
Like the churchgoer in the video, do we try to hide our faith? Do you ever pray in public? Or are you the type to pray with your eyes open, so that no one knows you're praying? Are we embarrassed about being christian? In the video, the churchgoer was afraid to show his faith in public because he was afraid of people constantly checking his "spiritual credibility". Others might be afraid that the people around them will make fun of them, or that they might drift away. Does anyone feel the same way?
Luke 8:16 No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light.
After receiving the faith and salvation from God, do we hide it under a jar? Jesus asks us to go into the world and preach His word, and that our actions and words are a testimony to Him. But do we do it? The world might have heavy expectations for Christians and might call us hypocrites when we do something wrong. But we should not be discouraged by that. No one is perfect. In fact, that is why we seek God, that is why we have become Christians. No one will ever be perfect. That's why, like the Christian in the video, discipleship, learning about Christ, going for Bible study, have daily devotions, not only help us grow to be more like Christ, but also helps us to answer some of the questions that the people around us might ask.
Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Maybe to the people around us think that religion isn't "cool". And its a sign of weakness to seek help from an external source. Religious people have no personality. They're all goodie-two-shoes that listen to whatever they hear. Maybe they mix Catholics, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses and christian together. Maybe they heard about a church that has compulsory offerings. Maybe the bad rep Christians have makes you hide your faith. Well it shouldn't. Instead it should encourage you to prove them wrong. Perhaps God put you among them to clear their doubts; be a testimony to Christ. Do not be conformed to this world and its beliefs and stereotypes. If you feel you are inadequate to do so, go up and read the small part about discipleship again.
Matthew 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Some might be afraid that your friends will mock you, leave you, etc etc all that bad stuff you're so afraid of. This verse clearly answers that. In fact in II Timothy 2:3, "Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus." It's ok to be on the receiving end of persecution (But if you get abused badly please do get help). If you are that afraid of being lonely, come befriend me. :P Or you can find some Christian friends in school.
It's kinda sad when you're friends go "HUH YOU'RE CHRISTIAN?!". Try to not let that happen?
