A New Song: 活出真正的你 by 有情天音乐

Thursday, October 27, 2011

Another Chinese song for today! This song is by the same people who did 你爱永不变 btw; and sorry for the weird video of people's photos, couldn't find a better video! Well just focus on the song and lyrics la:

Our upcoming Christmas event, FYL - Find Your Life, is all about the purpose and meaning of life, and it had me researching on the topic. I came across an interview with Rick Warren, author of The Purpose Driven Life, and it really striked home what life really means to us as Christians:
We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense. Life is a series of problems: you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one. The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort; God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy. We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.
At some point in our lives, we will/would have asked ourselves, what is my purpose in life? What is the point of me living on this earth? While non-Christians can have many different answers to that question, Christians should know that our purpose is not defined by ourselves, but by God.

But first let's go back to why we're Christians in the first place. Everyone has a different story for coming to know God; some of us have grown up in Church, some came to know Him through a family member of friend. But we all can agree that we decided that we believed because of His love which led to His death on the cross.

And this love transforms us, as 2 Corinthians 5:17 says: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" We might all have very different backgrounds and stories for coming to know Christ, but we have all experienced that love and transforming power:
神早就已经知道你所经历的忧伤,
来到祂施恩宝座前,
祂要除去一切重担,使你得着更新
Like most songs, the chorus of this song is where the main message comes through: That God's love is all-powerful and can help you to live out the real you, the you that God meant you to be:
耶稣的爱,奇妙的爱,
让祂拿掉你的面具,可以活出新造的你,
耶稣的爱是奇妙的爱,
向祂敞开你的自己,活出一个真正的你
In the interview with Rick Warren, he also mentioned:
We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity?
Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)? When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do.

That's why we're called human beings, not human doings.
I think these questions are questions we need to ask ourselves; what/who are we living for? Are we letting God's amazing love transform us to who we're really meant to be?
Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits at God’s right hand in the place of honor and power. Let heaven fill your thoughts. Do not think only about things down here on earth. For you died when Christ died, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your real life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.
(Dave Burchett's interpretation of Colossians 3:1-4)
