Well. This is pretty much that "epic song" about walking on water that Isaac mentioned in his
SHAPE Recap post a week ago. And if you're wondering what this whole "walking on the water" thing is about, read
Rachael's post from a few weeks ago, and read the part after the video to know more about the story. If you've been faithfully reading our blog and have already read those posts, listen on:
As we come to the end of the year, we've finished the
SHAPE series by Yilong Laoshi a week ago, and the whole series brings us to recognize one point: We are God's masterpieces. Each of us, a different but uniquely special masterpiece. Sometimes the word "masterpiece" seems so grand that it's hard for us to really believe it: "Oh, yes I believe God made me unique, but a masterpiece? C'mon lah..." Isaac also reminded us to accept this fact on
Wednesday's post. And honestly, there's no better word to replace the meaning behind
Ephesians 2:10.
A masterpiece is unique (no two are the same) and is a representation of what the artist envisions and works on carefully. By 'what the artist envisions', I mean that as the masterpiece is created, the artist is already imagining what the end result will be, what the meaning is behind it, and what impact it will make on other people. And this is also what God envisions for each and every one of us as He sculpted/sculpts us.
So what is holding us back from living out what God intended us to be? For some, it may be like what Isaac mentioned - it's just a matter of accepting & acknowledging your identity as God's masterpiece. But more often than not, it's simply that there is
something(s) holding us back from living out God's purpose. As today's song mentions, it could be fear, insecurity or doubt, and sometimes we ask ourselves too many questions.
You look around
It's staring back at you
Another wave of doubt
Will it pull you under?
You wonder
What if I'm overtaken?
What if I never make it?
What if no one's there?
Will you hear my prayer?
Other times, it could also be earthly things holding us back from fulfilling God's purpose. Things like the lack of time, studies, friendships, BGR, family problems, etc etc etc.
Somehow we always can find excuses to cover up for not doing what God wants. "God, I'm abit tired today, I'll read the Bible tomorrow. God, I have too many things going on, I don't have time for you for now; for now only! God, I feel more comfortable with my clique instead of talking to the new friend in church, someone else will do it one la!" Etc, etc, etc. We know what we ought to do, but yet we always manage to find an excuse to procrastinate and not do it.
What should we do to overcome these excuses and step out of our comfort zones? The answer is painfully obvious; step out. It might seem scary but:
When you take that first step
Into the unknown
You know that He won't let you go
So what are you waiting for?
What do you have to lose?
Your insecurities try to alter you
You know you're made for more
So don't be afraid to move
Your faith is all it takes
And you can walk on the water too
There it is again: "
faith". What it takes for all of us to be what God wants us to be is to simply take a step of faith, just as Peter did when He saw Jesus doing a seemingly impossible thing. Has God been calling you to do His work? To share the gospel to a friend, to live a more Christlike life, to serve in ministry despite all your other commitments? Or have you become
too comfortable not doing anything that you don't even feel a need to do His work? God has a purpose for all us, but it's up to us whether we want to respond to Him. We have to be willing to trust Him to be there for us when we put doing His work above our earthly commitments and fears. He is there with you on the water when you take that step of faith in the midst of the storm.
What's holding you back from taking the step of faith and walking on the water towards Him?
