Hey Guys,
This week's sermon is the last in the apostle's creed series that we have been learning for the past few months. There will be a test on the apostle's creed on the 27th, so please memorize it well!
This week we focus on the last line in the Apostle's Creed:
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting
Well before going into the topic of resurrection and everlasting life, let us take a look at the topic of death first.
ESV: James 4:13-14 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.
We plan for tomorrow and the day after, what to eat, where to go, who to go with, when we do not know what tomorrow maybe, or even if we have a tomorrow. Indeed, there's no guessing when death might come, and no way to escape from it. But is there life after death?
ESV: John 14:2-4 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.
Here's Jesus talks about life after death. In the Bible there are also instances where the dead come back to life, like Lazarus. Outside the Bible, there are also instances where clinically dead people have come back to life. However, we know that resurrection in the bible refers not to a revival of the physical body, but refers to a new life in heaven.
ESV: Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
However, there's one problem. We're all sinners. Only by accepting Jesus Christ can we have the ticket to heaven and eternal life.
ESV: Hebrews 9:27-28 And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
Since we do not know when Judgement day is coming, it is important that we prepare ourselves NOW and remain prepared for Jesus' second coming. Also it is important to spread the gospel to more people as no one knows when they will be gone. A good way is to invite them to FYL! :D
The Apostle's creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
- maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
- who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
- and born of the virgin Mary,
- suffered under Pontius Pilate,
- was crucified, died and was buried.
- He descended into hell.
- On the third day He rose again from the dead.
- He ascended into heaven
- and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
- From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
- the holy Christian church,
- the communion of saints,
- the forgiveness of sins,
- the resurrection of the body,
- and the life everlasting. Amen
